Sixty Four

Narrative Short Film (Prague / 2014)

Trapped in the two minds of one woman.

This short film was filmed and produced in August 2014 while participating in the summer-workshop at the PFS - Prague Film School.

“Sixty Four” was my first real short-film project, and represents my first realization of a long-time idea when I still had very little experience with film-writing, directing and camera work. When the opportunity arrived to participate in a one-month workshop at the Prague Film School, I was really excited to finally be able to put into effect the plentitude of confusing ideas and subplots that were buzzing around in my head for so long.

The underlying idea of the short film was to create an atmospheric “outsourced” perspective on a self-destructive mind. The project was driven by my desire to create a “piece of art” that not only satisfies my personal fascination with depressing atmospheres and interesting mind plays but also inspires the spectator to rewatch the film for a second and a third time. Nonetheless, I am the first one to admit that I may have exaggerated with the complexity of the project. This complexity, paired with my lack of experience with advanced storytelling, caused many people to have difficulties understanding the story and finding it boring to watch.

I will not attempt to „clarify“ how I envisioned the story, as I actually begin to find beauty in the fact that each person has their own take on the message of the film – whether they enjoyed it or not. However, what I can say is that I’ve learned a lot during the production of “Sixty Four” and made some amazing friends in Prague. Furthermore, I have not only learned to work with actors and with professional equipment, but also how to avoid mistakes in future projects.

All that said, I am proud of this short film and “Sixty Four”, being my first actual filmmaking experience, will always have a special place in my heart.
